From Saturday,
May 2, at 12:00 p.m. until Monday, May 4 at 9:00 p.m., the New Orleans Jazz &
Heritage Foundation will host an online auction to benefit the Jazz &
Heritage Relief Fund. Today, Jazz Fest raises $350 million annually
and draws crowds of hundreds of thousands. The celebration has
grown tremendously since its inception in 1970, when the number of
performers far exceeded the audience.
The foundation
has existed all this time, always with the mission of redistributing proceeds
throughout the community. Its mission statement is as follows: "The New Orleans
Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation,
Inc. promotes, preserves, perpetuates, and encourages the music, culture, and
heritage of communities in Louisiana through festivals, programs, and other
cultural, educational, civic, and economic activities."
In
response to the pandemic, which led to gig cancellations and venue
closures worldwide, the organization established the relief fund to support
local musicians. Don't miss your opportunity to support
their endeavors, beginning this Saturday. With auction items ranging
from visual art to unique crafts, jewelry, and more, this is a virtual
event you won't want to pass up. Visit the websiteto scroll through
bidding options today.
