New Orleans will be playing host to a unique bar crawl
for all, featuring some of the popular bars on and around Bourbon Street. Crescent City Classic,
Crescent City Fitness Foundation, and Michelob Ultra present the 2020 Bourbon
Street Barathon. Due to COVID-19, this will be a virtual marathon/bar crawl,
but the new safety guidelines give New Orleans an opportunity to make this a
nationwide event. Participants will run, walk, swim, or bike a total of 85
kilometers—that's 17 5Ks—on the NOLA French Quarter course or a course of their
own. For each 5k (3.1 miles), the participant will receive a milestone badge
and an email with fun facts about one of the bars, plus a recipe to make their
signature drink at home. When all 17 virtual visits are completed, the
participant will receive a finisher's medallion (it is a bottle opener!) and an
exclusive t-shirt or tank top.
This event, which promises to be "virtually
intoxicating," will begin on Tuesday, September 15, and will end on Saturday,
October 31, giving participants time to complete all 17 5Ks. It is $35 to
register; all participants receive their t-shirt/tank, finisher's medal,
virtual bib, and an entry in the raffle to win a two-night stay at the Royal
Sonesta New Orleans. Locals can pick up their packets in a drive-thru pick-up
at the Crescent City Classic office. Out-of-town participants can have their
registration package shipped. Registration ends September 15 at 11:59 p.m.
Why run or drink alone? Invite your friends to
participate with you and receive awesome prizes. Refer five friends and you
will receive a Tropical Isle shot glass and a pair of Hand Grenade beads. Refer
10 friends and you will receive a Pat O'Brien's $10 gift card or hurricane
glass. Refer 20 friends and you will receive $15 cash back and a Lafitte's
Blacksmith hat or a $25 gift card for Brennan's Restaurant/Napoleon House.
A full 100 percent of the proceeds will go directly to
the Louisiana
Hospitality Foundation to support the hospitality industry.
This is an opportunity for people to get some physical activity after being
quarantined for so long and to have some fun while giving back and learning
about the city we love.
