It's a step closer towards normalcy for Crescent City movie buffs because
Mid-City's The Broad Theater announced it would reopen this Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
The
theater, located on 636 N. Broad St., closed at the start of the COVID-19
pandemic last year, then reopened with limited capacity in June before closing
again in early December. The theater's outdoor venue, the Broadside, remained
open.
In
an Instagram post, the Broad announced its reopening would feature a slate of
the following films: Mortal Kombat (2021), Sister Tempest (by local filmmaker
Joe Badon), the anime film Demon Slayer, and the Swedish absurdist
comedy A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence.
The
reopening comes as this May appears to feature the most active Hollywood
release slate since the pandemic began, with the big-screen debuts of the Jason
Statham/Guy Ritchie crime film Wrath of Man (May 7), the Angelina Jolie
thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead (May 14), Chris Rock's Saw spinoff
Spiral (May 14), the romantic comedy Finding You (May 14), A Quiet
Place Part II (May 28), and Cruella featuring Emma Stone (May 28).
