The Big Cheezy at Henry’s Uptown Bar on Magazine Street closed its doors permanently on Wednesday, March 21. The restaurant was known for its 10 unique mac and cheeses as well as their cheese fries and crawfish sandwich. Although the restaurant and bar portions were separated by a door, the entire premise was licensed as a bar, barring anyone under the age of 18 from legally entering. When the restaurant was informed they could no longer serve persons under the age of 18, they decided to close their Magazine Street location altogether.
In 2017, the original New Orleans Big Cheezy on S. Broad closed its doors after the restaurant outgrew its space. They have two other locations in Kenner and Baton Rouge in addition to a food truck in Lafayette, but are still looking for the perfect spot to stick in New Orleans.
“We love New Orleans. It’s exactly where we want to be, but we haven’t had great luck there,” owner Thomas Jacobs said.
