Known for being ordinary men with extraordinary moves, the 610 Stompers are excited to announce that they will be hosting tryouts this upcoming August. Since 2009, the 610 Stompers have danced throughout New Orleans, displaying their moves at different Mardi Gras parades, sporting events, and debutante balls.
The group has also shown their talents in different cities throughout the nation. They have performed in New York City at the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, in Kentucky at the Kentucky Derby Festival Pegasus Parade, and in Washington, D.C. at the 64th Annual Mystick Krewe of Louisianians Mardi Gras Ball.
Not only does the group provide entertainment, but they are also devoted to raising money for different charities in the Greater New Orleans area. "Stompers Give Back," or SGB, is the group's quarterly charitable giving initiative. All local nonprofits that have a goal to make an impact and support the local community are eligible to receive funds. Over 50 charities and causes have received support from the 610 Stompers, including Habitat for Humanity, Good Shepherd School, and New Orleans Children's Hospital.
The 610 Stompers are also grateful to have the 610 Splits by their side, which are the group of women who are seen as the security component to the stompers. These ladies are responsible for walking alongside the stompers as they dance and stomp down the parade route. Not only are the women appreciated for the work they do, but they also have a lot of fun watching the performances.
If you're interested in joining the 610 Stompers, tryouts will be held at The Fillmore New Orleans at 6 Canal St. on August 14th and 15th. The group recommends that you bring enthusiasm and good nature, all while taking dance seriously! Even if you're not interested in auditioning, you are welcome to stop by to watch the amusing tryouts unfold.
