This year, "St. Bernard Salutes America" will be running a
bit differently. In response to health concerns, St. Bernard Parish will not be
host to its usual fanfare of bands, live music, and stalls of fun activities
for kids. Instead, what will occur this year is a 15-minute fireworks show that
spectators can enjoy from the safety of their car or outside while wearing
masks.
Though this change is unfortunate, the committee that puts
on the show decided that it was safe enough to have people gather for fireworks,
but not so for the bigger event that locals are used to. While the kids will
miss the fun activities and the parents the happiness of the kids, safety comes
first.
Public restrooms will still be available on-site.
It is with great sadness that the committee made the
decision to abridge the normally wide range of their festival to something safer
for the spectators. This will still enable attendees to get into the 4th of
July spirit and take part, even in times like these, by enjoying a smaller
version St. Bernard Salutes America.
