Mardi Gras' Greatest Dance Krewe Holds Its Annual Fundraiser Saturday, October 10.
It is not quite Carnival yet, but the greatest dance krewe of Carnival is planning its party-of-the-year. A few remaining tickets might be available for those willing to brave the deep.
"Mermaids and Mayhem," the marquee annual fundraiser for the Sirens of New Orleans dance krewe, is setting sail into Southport Hall this Saturday night, October 10, from 9 p.m. to midnight. Keeping its longstanding tradition of cues taken from the world of horror, the 13th annual Mermaids and Mayhem event is themed for "Sirens of the Black Lagoon."
The event will feature live DJ music, a costume contest, a dance performance from the krewe, photo ops, and a VIP open bar with exclusive early access at 8 p.m. A live auction will be featuring several of the Sirens' treasures, including group wine tasting at Total Wine for up to 20 guests, custom corset, restaurant experiences, and even a swimmable merfolk tail. Auction proceeds go to benefit the Sirens' charity partner, the Beignet Fest Foundation, which offers camps, programming, and social support for children and families affected by the autism spectrum or developmental delays.
Beyond the party, the Siren sightings are set to ramp up. The group will be continuing the Halloween season with an appearance at the Krewe of BOO! parade on October 24 and rounding out the year with a (nautically-fitting) swim to the Audubon Aquarium's Scales and Ales fundraiser on November 6. In the new year, the Sirens will make their main Carnival appearances at the Krewes of Alla on February 3, Morpheus on February 5, and Orpheus on February 8.
