KREWE OF FRERET UNVEILS 2023 PARADE & SHORTY GRAS LINEUP

The 2023 Parade Themed "Let the Band Play On" Features 25 Floats and Top Marching Bands Including Southern University, St. Augustine, Warren Easton, Roots of Music, Tulane University Football Organization and More.

College Students Will Receive Significant Discounts To Participate In The Celebration. Trombone Shorty, Flo Rida, Cha Wa, Rebirth, and others are among Shorty Gras' stellar musical lineup.

At a press conference held after today's King's Day Event at Mardi Gras World, the Krewe of Freret revealed information about its 2023 procession and "Shorty Gras" concert. The annual "Shorty Gras" Concert Ball will be held at Mardi Gras World as the parade concludes there on February 11 at 3:30 p.m. along the Uptown route.

More than 1,000 participants and 25 floats with names honoring New Orleans musicians like Big Freedia, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, and others will take part in this year's parade, which has the theme "Let the Band Play On." The Tulane University football team and coaching staff will ride a new distinctive Green Wave float in the Krewe to commemorate the school's great football season. To show their support, the Krewe is giving local college students a special "Ride with the Wave" price of $500 to participate in the parade, with $100 of that price going to Tulane Athletics.

The stunning fusion of Mardi Gras and music, "Shorty Gras," features a stellar cast that includes MC and Special Guest Trombone Shorty. Rapper Flo Rida, the Mardi Gras Indian funk band Cha Wa, the Grammy-winning Rebirth Brass Band, the street funk band Flow Tribe, Hot Boy Ronald, the musician behind Tulane's winning football anthem, and the multi-instrumentalist, producer, and band leader Khris Royal will all be performing with him at this year's ball.

As part of Freret, which honors yet another great Mardi Gras musical tradition, there will be an incredible lineup of top marching bands, including the Roots of Music Band, Warren Easton Fighting Eagles Marching Band, St. Augustine High School Marching 100, and Southern University Marching Band, also known as the "Human Jukebox." During Shorty Gras, the bands will perform in a format akin to a battle of the bands.

The famed float builder and parade producer Kern Studios and the critically acclaimed musician Trombone Shorty are partners in the krewe, which is positioned to become the next "Super Krewe '' of the New Orleans Carnival. The procession includes a number of signature Krewe floats, including the biggest Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews bust ever attached to a Mardi Gras float.
