The 22nd New Orleans French Film Festival is happening at the Prytania Theatre (5339 Prytania St.) from February 15 to 21, 2019. This year's selection of French and French-language films, along with a program of short films, will also be accompanied by lectures and live music.
Here is a sample of the movies scheduled for the fest:
Beauty and the Beast – Jean Cocteau’s fantastic 1946 version of the classic tale.
Gaspard at the Wedding (2017) – Afraid to show up at his father's wedding alone, Gaspard (Félix Moati) begs a stranger (Laetitia Dosch) to be his date. The family also owns a zoo in this family-reunion comedy. Director Antony Cordier will be in attendance.
My Son (2017) – A man (Guillaume Canet) searches for his seven-year-old son, who has disappeared during a camping trip with his class.
On Va Continuer! (2018) – Grammy-winning Louisiana band Lost Bayou Ramblers push the boundaries of Cajun music and breathe new life into the Louisiana French language through their genre-bending music. Followed by a live music set from the Lost Bayou Ramblers to celebrate the film's world premiere.
Out of Chaos: An Artist’s Journey in Haiti (2018) – In this documentary, transmedia artist Pascal Giacomini spends a month in Port-au-Prince with a group of Vodou practitioners and artists to collectively create large metal sculptures from recycled materials sourced from the trash on the streets.
