On August 3, Red Bull will host be hosting a regional qualifier for their international "Dance Your Style" competition at Generations Hall on Andrew Higgins Boulevard. With "no planned choreography," nor any "pre-chosen music," the goal of the "Dance Your Style" competition is to give "freedom to dancers." Multiple competitors from the general New Orleans area, and a few from Texas, Tennessee, and one from California, will be using a variety of contemporary dance styles-including house, break dancing, popping, and other street-dance styles-for a chance to compete at the national qualifier in Las Vegas.
"Dancers participating in Red Bull 'Dance Your Style' will have the dance floor as their canvas to thrill, surprise, and delight the audience." Winners are decided by crowd vote instead of expert judge decision. This gives dancers the freedom to wow the crowd with risky, explosive moves instead of being forced to focus on techniques that satisfy a panel of judges. In addition to the crowd vote, each segment will feature a random selection music to test the dancers' ability to improvise. All this gives the event a dynamic, exciting feeling that can't be matched by traditional dance competitions.
