The Prytania Theatre is the oldest operating theater in New Orleans. Since 1914, it has been
bringing the community together for the unparalleled and magical experience of
collectively viewing a movie on the silver screen—whether that means the silent
films of a century ago, art films, or the latest in digital technology. For
over 100 years, the theater has been in the Brunet family, who are known for
saving and re-opening closed theatres.
The Prytania Theater's latest venture is on Canal Street, as
the theater has now announced the opening of Prytania Theatres at Canal Place.
On November 6, the theater will open their 21,762 square-foot space on the
third level of the premier luxury retail destination, Canal Place. The general manager of Canal Place, Lisa Manzella, is very
excited to welcome The Prytania Theatres at Canal Place. "Both institutions
have a long-standing heritage of serving New Orleans residents and visitors,
and we are thrilled to now have the Prytania as part of Canal Place," she said.
The theater will bring to Canal Place similar programming and amenities as the original
Prytania Uptown, including first-run films, classic films, specialty films,
film festivals, locally produced films, movie premiers, and birthday parties,
with the addition of a full bar with an expanding food menu.
Canal Place is the world-class shopping center on the edge of
the historic French Quarter. The shopping center is home to many notable,
exclusive designer boutiques, offering a variety of luxury brands, home goods,
beauty brands, and much more. Canal Place also includes an on-site four-star
hotel, The Westin Canal Place, and a convenient covered parking facility.
