If you’re looking for a break from the summer heat and blockbuster superhero movies, the venerable Prytania Theater is hosting Filmtopia from July 20-26.

The lineup is an eclectic mix of independent, local, and classic films. Highlights include a retrospective for legendary director Stanley Kubrick’s 90th birthday that will feature Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, The Killing, The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut, Full Metal Jacket, and Barry Lyndon. The new documentary Film Worker about Kubrick’s longtime right-hand man Leon Vitali will also screen at the festival.

Other highlights include The Gospel According to Andre, a documentary about fashion fixture Andre Leon Talley, and the local documentary Ella Brennan: Commanding the Table. Among the fiction films playing, both the revisionist Western Damsel, starring Robert Pattinson, and The Guardians, a French drama set against the backdrop of World War I, are appealing options. The classic movies lineup will be rounded out by Al Pacino and Brian DePalma’s iconic 1983 film Scarface.
