The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series is excited to announce Preservation Hall Jazz Band as the headliner for the 2019 Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Marathon & Half Marathon. On Sunday, Feb. 10, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band will take to the Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Stage in City Park to close out a fun-filled weekend of fitness and music. The concert will be free and open to the public.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band is a local jazz band associated with the French Quarter’s famous and intimate jazz club, Preservation Hall.  Now led by Ben Jaffe, son of Allan and Sandra Jaffe who established the club, the band sticks to their classic jazz roots. Originally founded in the 1960s, the band has most recently shared festival stages from Coachella to Newport, including legends like Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello and the Grateful Dead and modern giants like My Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire and the Black Keys. In 2017, the group released So It Is, their second album featuring all-new original music. The album attempts to redefine what New Orleans music means by combining the city’s Afro-Cuban roots with inspiration from contemporary cutting-edge artists.

“We are excited to bring an iconic New Orleans jazz band to the Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Stage,” said Josh Furlow, Managing Director of North America for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. “Preservation Hall Jazz Band has one of the most authentic New Orleans sounds and such a rich history in the city. It will be a great celebration for runners and spectators as we conclude the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans weekend.”

The musically-themed Humana Rock 'n' Roll New Orleans Marathon & 1/2 Marathon is known for Bringing the Fun to the Run™. The weekend kicks off the running on Saturday, Feb. 9 and the party continues through Sunday, Feb. 10. Runners get a first-class tour of New Orleans architecture and historical scenery while rocking to the sounds of live, local bands playing every mile of the races. The event concludes with the headliner concert on Sunday and finish line festival in City Park.

Race weekend kicks off with a Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, Feb. 8 from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 9 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center, Hall C. The expo will showcase vendors featuring the latest in running gear, nutrition, and training, and is free and open to the public.
