After the New Orleans Saints lost the qualifying game for the Super Bowl on Sunday (Jan. 20), the city of New Orleans is rallying for a rematch with an online petition. Having reached over 315,000 out of 500,000 signatures already, on the same day of its start, creator Terry Cassreino claims that refs failed to call a blatant interference late in the fourth quarter.

The petition for the National Football League’s commissioner Roger Goodell calls for a rematch, with petitioners saying the city as a whole was cheated from going to the Superbowl.

The call would have changed the outcome of the game as if it had been called the Saints would have been given a first down near midfield. Referees did not give them a break in overtime either, with a number of questionable calls throughout the game.

Due to NFL rules (Rule 17, Section 2, Article 1), commissioner Goodell does indeed have the power to reverse the decision and either send the Saints to the Superbowl or reschedule the Rams-Saints game.

This would have been the first time the Saints made it to the Super Bowl since 2010.
