Winter is beginning, and the colder air is not stifling any activity, including those that are outside this week. Have extra jackets on hand just in case, because you're not going to want to miss anything.
For Rock N' Bowl's Swing Night this Wednesday, a Clockwork Elvis will be performing at 8:30 p.m. There's no better band for rocking while bowling. And for Thursday night, brass meets strings as The Slow Danger Brass Band performs with Helen Gillet and the Wazozo Orchestra at 8 p.m. at Siberia for $8.
First up on Friday, the Freret Street Boxing Gym will be holding their monthly match at Freret Street and Napoleon Avenue for $15 in advance. The bout begins at 7 p.m. Later at One Eyed Jacks, northwestern doom outfit Witch Mountain will welcome the gloomy winter weather with Castle and Solid Giant at 10 p.m. for $12. A special strip show is happening at the Allways Lounge at 11 p.m. The Takin' It Off to Take 'Em Off drag and burlesque show will raise money for Evan Elijah Exnicios's upcoming surgery. The show is $10, and there is a propensity to go beyond just looking at the performers. But you'll have to be there to experience it.
The Treme Gumbo Festival will warm you up if it's chilly out. The fest is free and takes place in Congo Square in Armstong Park on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will not only be vendors with delicious food, but plenty of brass bands and discussions on the revitalization of the area. You can also catch the fest on Sunday at the same time. The annual 504 Art Rock Circus will be held at the brand new space Oblique Place at 900 Franklin and Burgundy Street beginning at 6 p.m. There will be lots of art, music, and many more surprises. If you can pull yourself away from that party, NOLA hardcore faves Hawg Jaw plays with A Hanging and High at Siberia at 10 p.m. for just $6.
