The show at One Eyed Jacks last night was one of the best I've seen in a while. High on Fire intoxicated everyone there for sure, and nearly sold out the bar! Happy Thanksgiving week! You may have a day, or a few days, off this week for the holiday, so use them wisely. Here are some events that you can use them for.
Ex-Acid Bath and Deadboy & The Elephantmen musician Dax Riggs performs a solo acoustic set at One Eyed Jacks on Wednesday night at 9 p.m. for $10. If you're not in a turkey coma on Thanksgiving night, you can go see Charlotte garage rockers Paint Fumes, Bazooka, and Mississippi punk rock man Buck Biloxi at Circle Bar at 10 p.m.
To start off the proper weekend on Friday night, Maison on Frenchmen Street has a full lineup of great bands beginning at 5 p.m. including Gravy, Mainline, Emily Estrelle and the Faux Barrio Billionaires, and Those Peaches. Or you can have some early-Winter summer fun with the jazz n' surf show at the Howlin' Wolf Den at 10 p.m. For just $5, you get live tunes by Buddy & The Squids, The Log Ladies, and The Unnaturals. If you want something a little heavier, Artriarch, Solid Giant, and Barghest are serving up some metal at Siberia for just $7 at 10 p.m.
Dance and techno legend Eddie Richards will help you work off the Thanksgiving dinner binge with crazy beats all night on Saturday at the Hi Ho Lounge for $10.
On Sunday night, Emily Estrella comes back out with her Faux Barrio Billionaires to teach everyone at the Hi Ho Lounge swing dancing for free. The lesson begins at 8 p.m. This event goes on every Sunday now, and is followed by swing music at 9 p.m. There are also great drink specials to help get you in the groove. You can take those lessons and still make the show in the Quarter. The popular Canadian garage rock duo Japandroids at One Eyed Jacks with Brooklyn rockers Swearin' and KG Accidental at 9 p.m. for $16.
