I hope you had a restful holiday because there’s some fun stuff this weekend, especially for those of us drawn to the Dork Side.

It will be fast and loud at Siberia tonight when grinders Napalm Death performs with thrash bands Exhumed, Municipal Waste, and Speedwolf at Siberia at 10 p.m. And the goth/industrial dance party Attrition is back at Siberia on Thursday night at 10 p.m.

The big event for this week is Wizard World’s Comic Con at the Convention Center. There will be plenty of comic book vendors, but this convention is really a celebration of all things pop culture like movies, cartoons, and television shows. It goes on Friday afternoon from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. The Con is filled with seminars and panels also, and some highlights for me are the Boondock Saints Panel and the Walking Dead Panel. Tickets are $35-$40 per day or $80 for the whole weekend. You can see the programming schedule, purchase tickets, and more on their website.

The Zeitgeist Multi-Disciplinary Center on Oretha C. Haley Boulevard is hosting a convention of their own. The Social Change Film Festival and Institute will screen a plethora of features and shorts along with discussions and lectures beginning on Wednesday evening and going through Sunday night. You can learn more about the films and ticketing information here

For your late night entertainment, Debauche gets the party going Friday night at the Hi Ho Lounge at 10 p.m. Or HAMP Fest is at One Eyed Jacks. HAMP Fest is an HIV awareness party featuring live music by the Louisiana Hellbenders, Clockwork Elvis, and more for $15. The doors are at 9 p.m. and there will be free HIV testing on site.

After the Con on Saturday night, there will be an after party at the Howlin’ Wolf nearby beginning at 9 p.m. For $15, or $10 if you’re in costume, you can attend Set Your Phasers to Stunning: Sci-Fi Fashion Show with live music by the Consortium of Genius and lots more. You can join the Krewe of the Living Dead zombie march that begins at the Comic Con at 8 p.m. as they slowly hobble and moan their way to the Wolf. If you’ve had your geek-fill for the day, you can also check out Gravy Flavored Kisses at Blue Nile at 10 p.m.
