According to a new study by personal finance website WalletHub, Louisiana has the worst economy in the United States. In this study, it looked at the gross domestic product growth of the states focusing on start-up activity and the number of people inventing new products. This study put Louisiana at the very bottom behind states like Connecticut and Kansas.

Along with looking at GDP growth, the study focused on other financial subjects. The study has Louisiana as the 47th lowest percentage of jobs in the high-tech industry and the 48th fewest independent inventor patents per 1,000.

However, in the more positive realm, the study did tie Louisiana with North Dakota, Texas, and Washington, the state with the best U.S. economy, for 1st in the highest number of exports per capita.
