A petition to reinstall the Confederate monuments has been circulating all over town. Spearheaded by Frank Stewart, the petition seeks to not only return the monuments to their erstwhile pedestals but to also install measures so that other statues aren’t taken down. Other demands include a popular vote to remove any statue and established rules to relocate any monuments. Of course, in order for the community to vote on the proposed changes, the petition would have to receive 10,000 signatures from registered voters in the city. This petition comes a time when the city is steeped in a heated battle over the civil war monuments. Voices pro and contra can be heard all over the city and this petition is one of the loudest.
