According to a recent ranking by WalletHub, New Orleans has surpassed Baton Rouge on a list of "Safest Cities in America".
New Orleans ranked 165 out of a list of 182 while Baton Rouge ranked 178 out of 182. The Big Easy also ranked third for fewest hate crimes per capita.
In order to determine these results, WalletHub evaluated 182 cities, including 150 of the most populated cities in America. The evaluations are based on dimensions including financial safety, home and community safety, and even natural disaster risk. These dimensions are then evaluated based on 41 metrics from thefts per capita to flood risk level, and then graded on a 100 point scale. The weighted average of each of these metrics represents each cities cumulative score.
It is important to note that in accumulating this data, only the city proper was considered, excluding the surrounding metro area.
