For the month of September, the New Orleans bike share company Blue Bikes is offering residents of the city one hour of use of the Blue Bikes per day, free of charge. The company calls this special offer “Locals September” to encourage more New Orleanians to exercise and to try out their bike share program.
The usual, set rate for Blue Bikes is $0.13 per minute, which is roughly $8 per hour. Blue Bikes has a monthly subscription option of $15 a month, which offers its users an hour’s use of their bikes a day (and $0.13 per minute after the hour). In other words, Locals September is a free trial of Blue Bike’s monthly service. University students receive a reduced fee ($10 a month) when they sign up with their school emails.
