New Orleans' First "Virtual" Parade Rolls Tonight

21:30 February 02, 2016

New Mardi Gras parades have become increasingly alternative and socially critical in recent years, but the Krewe of Vaporwave is taking it to a whole new level.

This virtual parade rolls online tonight (February 2) at 7 PM at www.kreweofvaporwave.com.  It will include a series of virtual floats accompanied by vaporwave music and virtual throws in the form of GIFs.

The krewe defines themselves in opposition to all other krewes, whose goals generally are to bring people together no matter the topic or theme.  The Krewe of Vaporwave intends to allow people to remain alienated, viewing the parade alone from the comfort of a dark bedroom.

The concept is a bit obscure and may not resonate with all viewers, but it is the most easily accessible parade for those lacking the time and patience to brave the Mardi Gras crowds.

Below is one of several previews posted on their website.

If that intrigues you enough to indulge in the full experience, tune in to their website tonight for the Krewe of Vaporwave's first annual virtual parade.
