The New Orleans Film Festival recently announced some exciting additions featuring Oscar-winning talent to their lineup.
Empire of Light, directed by Sam Mendes (who won the Oscar for American Beauty), is a film about a movie theater in a seafront town in early 1980s England. Starring Oscar winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite), the film focuses on Colman's character's unlikely attraction to Stephen (Micheal Ward). It's also a celebration of community and the healing power of the cinema. It will play at 8:30 at the New Orleans Jazz Market on Monday, November 7.
Causeway was shot in New Orleans and tells the story of a soldier (Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar for The Silver Linings Playbook) who suffered a traumatic brain injury in Afghanistan. She struggles to adjust to life after returning to her native New Orleans. It will play on Sunday, November 6th at 7:30 at the Prytania Theatre Uptown.
Director Sarah Polley (Away From Her, Stories We Tell) is back behind the camera with Women Talking, an exploration of the lives of women living in an isolated religious community in 2010. 3-time Best Actress winner Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; Fargo; Nomadland) stars with Rooney Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Carol). It will play on Monday, November 7th at 7:30 at the Prytania Theatre Uptown.
