The Devil Wears Prada 2 (2026)
Twenty years after The Devil Wears Prada introduced viewers to imperious fashion mag boss Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and her harried assistant Andrea (Anne Hathaway), the cast, director (David Frankel), and screenwriter (Aline Brosh McKenna) return for a sequel.
At the start of The Devil Wears Prada 2, Andrea is winning an award for her journalism when she and her colleagues all receive texts telling them they've been laid off. Andrea ends up back with Miranda at Runway as a features editor. Runway is also on hard times with new owners trying to cut costs.
As with the original, the strength of the film lies in the main cast. Hathway and Streep are both very good, as is Stanley Tucci as Miranda's right hand man Nigel. It also thankfully avoids the common sequel temptation to make everyone buddies and de-fang the personal conflicts that defined the original film. Streep once again gets a lot of laughs. However, just like in the original, there is a perfunctory romantic subplot for Andrea that is completely separate from the main story and adds nothing to the film. There's also an extraneous romantic subplot for Miranda with her musician boyfriend (Kenneth Branagh).
The
Devil Wears Prada 2 passes
the time well enough, and people looking for lifestyle porn will get a kick out
of the high fashion and luxury estates. Like many sequels, however, it's an
okay-to-decent recycling of elements that worked better in the earlier film.
