Along with physical upkeeping, taking care of one's mental health is an important task that we all must strive to do on a daily basis, even during difficult times such as the COVID-19 pandemic and Hurricane Ida. Sometimes, people around us are suffering when we don't even realize it.

On January 19, 2022, there will be an event at the Ashé Power House Theatre on 1731 Baronne St. entitled "Mental Health First Aid Training: Doing Mental Health Differently." Running from 5-7 p.m., the event will help attendees learn how to understand, identify, and respond to signs of not only mental illness, but also substance abuse disorders.

Presented by the New Orleans chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the Metropolitan Human Services District, and the Louisiana Public Health Institute, the class will help people to become mental health first aid champions and a lifeline to those in need of help.
