LSU Crowns New Mike the Tiger VII

By: Jordan Haber

A new member joined the incoming LSU freshmen for their first day of class—11-month-old cub Mike VII is now an official Fighting Tiger. The LSU live mascot tradition originated in 1936 with Mike I and has remained a continuous presence within the LSU community. The newest cool cat on campus arrived by a donation from the “Wild at Heart Wildlife Center” in Okeechobee, Florida. After spending a week in quarantine to ensure he was healthy, Mike VII was released into his habitat and is already making himself at home. The induction of Mike VII succeeds the passing of Mike VI in October 2016 from cancer.
