Louisiana International Film Fest Returns to Baton Rouge for 2018 This Weekend

The 6th annual Louisiana International Film Festival takes place in Baton Rouge from April 19thto the 22nd. There will be more than 50 movies from around the world scheduled, plus live music, parties, mentorship classes and workshops. 

Movies making their world premieres include:

1000 YEAR FLOOD (2018 / 79 min.) dir: Lauren Durr

Prolonged rainfall in southern parts of Louisiana during August of 2016 caused catastrophic flooding that submerged thousands of houses and businesses. This documentary shows the forgotten victims of Louisiana's Great Flood, who must rely on each other to survive when their government fails them.

BREATHE (2017 / 8 min.) dir. Michael Liu

Louisiana native Shanna Forrestall premieres her short film project that she wrote, which is inspired by personal life events that caused her to focus on recovery from grief. Although the film was shot in beautiful Lake Arrowhead, California to take advantage of the snowy winter landscapes, the film touts a primarily Louisiana cast and crew. The film stars Escalante Lundy and Forrestall, with special appearances by Artist Jennifer Awad of Kardia Gallery (her original painting is also featured in the film) and young actor Daniel Francois. 

CUT OFF (2017 / 87 min) dir: Jowan Carbin

Struggling with his new life in New Orleans, Clive follows Trevor, a former professor to his country home on the bayou to gain a new perspective. While Trevor helps Clive deal with his demons, Clive is sucked into a mission to kill.This is the debut of the Director's Cut. This thriller stars Brad Dourif, William Baldwin, John Robinson, and Laura Cayouette.

URBAN COUNTRY (2018 / 89 min) dir: Teddy Smith

Shot on location in Biloxi, Mississippi, the first feature by cinematographer Teddy Smith tells the story of a troubled young girl who must trade a carefree life in the city for a hard-work and no-frills country lifestyle in order to learn who she really is and what she wants out of life.The movie stars Brighton Sharbino, Lou Diamond Phillips and Jason London.
