The Lafitte
Greenway is celebrating its 5th birthday with a luminary art experience
called "Supernova on the
Greenway." The Lafitte Greenway's linear park and multi-use trail will be
transformed into a light and art experience for visitors. Presented by Friends of Lafitte Greenway and NORD (New Orleans Recreation Development)
Commission, the free art exhibit will feature beautifully lit art installations
through this Sunday, December 20, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. In partnership with LUNA Fête and Arts Council New Orleans, Supernova
on the Greenway will be a luminary display bringing life and light to the
greenway, showcasing vibrant colors for a joyful experience. This year, their
annual soirée will be a socially distanced outdoor experience to
inspire community healing and to serve as an annual fundraiser in support of the
Greenway in 2021.
The luminary art experience will feature 10
luminary works and pieces made by artists. All attendees will be required to
wear a mask and to socially distance, with the exhibit's lights and arts spread
out to ensure that the event is safely enjoyed by all attendants. Volunteers
are also welcomed to sign up online to help make Supernova a success and to
support the Greenway staff.
Visitors can also show their support for the Lafitte
Greenway by becoming a "Supernova star," by donating to the Greenway's growth in
2021. Donors will receive specialty drink tokens that can be exchanged for
drinks at local participating bars, breweries, and distilleries in New Orleans.
Other Supernova-star exclusive perks
include a new Greenway t-shirt and "doubluminaries" (doubloons + luminaries), which
are special deals that can be utilized at participating local businesses
throughout the city, including fitness and wellness, food and drink, retail,
and entertainment spots, from now until January 15, 2021.
Visit Supernova on the Greenway to enjoy an
illuminating and dazzling light and art show that is perfect for this holiday
season. The fun outdoor activity celebrates Greenway communities, as well serving
as a great fundraiser to support, invest in, and care for public green spaces.
