Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Steve Morse and Don Airey-otherwise known as Deep Purple-will perform in New Orleans on Tuesday, September 24, at 7:30 p.m. at Saenger Theatre. Presented by Live Nation, the concert is part of their Long Goodbye Tour, which will visit over 25 North American cities this fall. The band has been on the road almost continually since their inception in 1968, and the tour quickly follows a successful summer stint with Judas Priest.
With record sales of over 100 million, these hard rock pioneers are international legends known for their many classic songs, including "Smoke on the Water," "Highway Star," and "Speed King." However, with 6 studio albums released since 1996 alone, they have proven to keep their eclectic style fresh with new sounds over the decades. The band received the Legend Award in the 2008 World Music Awards, and they are listed by Planet Rock as the 5th Most Influential Band Ever and by VH1 as #22 of the Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.
