Did you have a fun time at French Quarter Fest? A lot of people did, this year was attended by huge crowds. Although I couldn’t get all of the food that I wanted to, the music was fantastic. I especially enjoyed Johnny Sketch & The Dirty Notes at The Mint on Saturday. This week’s blog is not about the birds and bees; the title refers to two awesome events with similar acronyms that are happening on Saturday. There are other awesome events too.
Thursday is full of evening films. First up is the monthly Green Screen showing the film Dirty Energy in conjunction with the Louisiana Bucket Bridage at the Green Project at 6:30 p.m. This film is free. The hilarious Found Footage Fest comes back to New Orleans to play their collection of strange VHS tape segments at UNO at 8 p.m. The show is free for students. After those films, you can marvel at the interesting Asian-city-inspired visual aesthetics by the Shadow Gallery at the goth dance party Attrition at Siberia at 10 p.m. for free.
The first B &B on Saturday is the 4th Annual Bugs and Brew for Drew Crawfish Cook-off and Beer Festival by the Drew Rodrigue Foundation at Mardi Gras World’s River City Plaza. The party starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 5 p.m. and features over fifty teams competing in the crawfish cook-off. There will also be a cask beer garden by the Craft Brewers Guild with seven local breweries showing off their best brews. Local music will be provided by Papa Grows Funk, the Honey Island Swamp Band, and more. And the best part for the Budgeter: the event is free! Then next B & B is Bikinis and Bellinis at 7 p.m. at Indulge Island Grill supporting the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Models will be sporting some fashionable swimwear by fantastic designers. I’ll be after-partyin’ with A Clockwork Elvis at Bayou Beer Garden, which begins at 8 p.m. and lasts all night. You may be in the mood for something a little dirtier. In that case, the Dirty Dime Peepshow 4/20 Edition takes it off at the Allways Lounge at 11:00 p.m. for $15. The show will be themed after the substance that the holiday is known for. If you don’t know what that is, think green!
Still revved up on Monday? Please join Where Y’at for our own Margarita Mix Off at PubliQ House on Freret Street at 8 p.m. There is no cover and you get to taste the creations of the three finalists and help decide who takes home the prize.
