A new La Carreta is set to open at 1814 Magazine Street, replacing Rosa Mezcal. La Carreta, which serves up fine Mexican cuisine, has 13 locations in total spanning throughout Southern Louisiana. However, this will be its first location in New Orleans. Saul Rubio, the original owner of La Carreta, grew up in the small town of Queretaro, Mexico where he watched his mother cook at her establishment, Restaurante Tina’s. After emigrating from Mexico to focus on his future, Saul Rubio opened up the first La Carreta in Hammond in 1998.
The newest location of La Carreta will keep the colorful work-van that functioned as the bar for Rosa Mezcal. However, it will be featuring a smaller menu than the other La Carretas. According to the director of La Carreta Restaurant Group, the new location should open in the second week of August.
