Actor from the hit series “Supernatural,” Jensen Ackles, will reign as Bacchus LI King at this year’s March 3 parade. Bacchus krewe officials announced the news early Wednesday (Jan. 23) that its 2019 Carnival celebration will include Ackles, continuing the long tradition of celebrity monarchs.
The Dallas native whose wife is from Lafayette has been featured on shows such as “Dawson’s Creek” and “Smallville” as well as the 2009 feature film remake of “My Bloody Valentine 3D.”
The CW series “Supernatural,” with its cult following, is on its 14th season, making Ackles a bonafide superstar and a popular leader for the parade.
Since 1969 stars have led the parade starting with Danny Kaye with other former stars including Bob Hope, Kurt Douglas, and Will Ferrell. Ackles will hold the honor of leading this year’s after last year’s Bacchus reigning king, J.K. Simmons.
The traditional Krewe of Bacchus, with its 1,600-member class, will hit the streets the Sunday night before Mardi Gras, broadcast locally on WWL-Ch. 4. The parade will be followed by the annual Bacchus Rendezvous party at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
