The Krewe de Pink has more of a mission than just marching for Mardi Gras. This krewe is focused on raising funds for breast cancer research in order to help those diagnosed with it and hopefully to end breast cancer for good. Their annual party Death By Chocolate... Not Breast Cancer took place in the gorgeous Schoen & Son Funeral Home and featured alumni and students of Delgado's Culinary Arts Program who were tasked with creating entrees, desserts, and drinks featuring chocolate.
The storied funeral home was filled with vibrant pink hues and lots of bubbly as attendees, Krewe de Pink members, and Sweet Survivors of Breast Cancer sampled the entries and voted on what they believed to be the best of the best. Both the judging panel and the laypeople chose Terri Searcy's Yakamein Wonton Soup as the first place choice for Savory Dish, and Dymonika Gayden also came in first by both groups in Sweet Dish with her Chocolate Cookie Cheesecake. Alumni Enjoli Kaufman was the first place of the alumnus with the Eat Your Tart Out rose-infused tart topped with bits of flowers.
While the Krewe de Pink prepares for Krewe de Pink Prom in September, the Delgado culinary students are already planning their dishes for next year's Death By Chocolate... Not Breast Cancer so they can claim sweet victory.
