Music Box - Music Box

Many music fans in the city have followed the fests up to Bonnaroo, but there's a lot of unconventional music going on here this weekend to hold down the fort.

The swim trucks and bikinis are coming out at Siberia as they host another Surf Night featuring The Green Demons, Bruiser's House of Surf, and The Rotten Cores for the low price of $5 at 10 p.m. D.J. Hunter King will be spinning some classic surf tunes in between bands to keep the party going.

The artist Swoon's Music Box in the Bywater will be having four final performances this weekend. If you have yet to see it, this is your last chance before it is disassembled before the permanent structure is built. The Music Box is a large hand-made, multi-level structure that houses multiple instruments, many are improvised pieces like drums made from wooden frames wrapped in plastic wrap. Musicians take their respective instruments and create music together under the orchestration of Quintron. The shows are never the same, but are all unforgettable. The presale tickets for the shows have sold out, but if you arrive early enough to 1027 Piety Street in the Bywater, they will still be letting people in. The shows are Friday night at 7:30 and 8 and Saturday night at the same time. The entrance is $10.

After listening to the moving music at the Music Box, there are some concerts later those night that aren't so pretty, but will be just as fun. Siberia hosts two nights of intense, extreme, and insane hardcore punk shows called Chad Fest 2012. Friday night is the long-running and black-hooded band The Mentors who will be performing with Pottymouth, The Poots, Sci-Fi Zeros and more for $7 at 10 p.m. And Saturday, Negative Approach headlines the show with Gary Wrong Group, Classhole featuring members of TireFire, haarp, and Eyehategod, A Hanging, and Toxic Rott for $13 at 10 p.m. You can buy advance tickets to Saturday's show at the bar for a discounted price.

After all this live music, if you feel that you want something more to look at than hear, you can cross the street on Saturday night and check out the illustrious Bella Blue's Dirty Dime Peep Show happening at the Allways Lounge. You never know what can happen at this burlesque show, although you can be sure that it involves a lot of skin; nine ladies-worth to be exact. The show is at midnight and the cover is $10.
