Bud Light Fountain - Bud Light Fountain

Mardi Gras is on hold for Orleans Parish, but you'll hardly notice it with the plethora of Super Bowl festivities happening, and you can still enjoy the parties without enjoying the Super Bowl teams. I was checking out the Bud Light Hotel takeover at the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel this morning in anticipation of their weekend concert series, including Stevie Wonder himself on Saturday night. There's a fantastic and free concert series for the rest of the weekend happening at Woldenberg Park with many local bands and musicians. However, if you'd rather stay on the periphery of the downtown madness, I have a few suggestions.

Tonight there are some great shows to greet the weekend. The New Orleans Bingo Show is performing at d.b.a. on Frenchmen Street at 10 p.m. for the service industry folks who won't rest this weekend. And there's a battle between pirate and ninja burlesque dancers going down at Siberia at 10 p.m. Rev. Spooky LeStrange is pitting her Billion Dollar Babydolls in this match and live music will be provided after the showdown by Ghost Wolves and Toast Beards. Cover is $6.

Famed local wig-maker Fifi Mahoney's is holding a beauty pageant on Friday night at Siberia on St. Claude Avenue, but, of course, it's not the typical affair. The "mother/daughter" pageant is for really for adults only. Contestants dressed like over-the-top child pageant contestants and their overzealous moms that are so popular on television today will be parading on stage in swimwear and evening wear and performing a talent for the favor of the judges and to win prizes. Cover is $5.

The Hi Ho Lounge has gathered the best local DJs for their Super Solid dance party on Saturday night at 10 p.m. Unicorn Fkr, Herb Christopher, Paul B, and the veteran with a new name Bassgator will be spinning some house, hip hop, and anything else that will make the booties bounce. There is no cover until 1 a.m.

After the big game on Sunday, you can celebrate the victory or defeat of whichever team you choose or just enjoy a show for the sake of music at the Blue Nile Balcony Room with Gravy Flavored Kisses at 10 p.m. The show is free. You'll also be high above what is sure to be a packed and entertaining crowd on Frenchmen Street to add to the fun.
