Welcome to the first Big Easy Budgeter of 2013! I hope that you enjoyed ushering in the new year on Monday night, and hope that you’ll get enough rest to enjoy its first weekend. The past weekend also brought the end of the Saints season, but there will still be enough to keep you entertained.

Get your punk and ska on Thursday night with Joystick, The Fuzzlers, and I’m Fine at Banks St. Bar at 9 p.m. There never is a cover at Banks St. Bar so that you can have money for a slice of pizza next door.

Friday night will see Sir Stephen at The Big Top on Clio Street with Kay Leotard and The Handsom Scoundrels at 7 p.m. for $5. Go a few blocks southward to The Saint on St. Mary Street for a very alliterative show with Scarecrow, Sonic Boombox, High, Secret Society and Smaller Lies beginning at 9 p.m. If you want to stay on the downtown side of the Quarter, you can catch the early and always free Happy Hour with Dr. Sick of This Stunted Sextette from 6-8 p.m., and stick around for Meta The Man, The Ivory Sons, and I, Octopus at 10 p.m. for $6. Meta The Man is back with new singer Sam Aronoff.

The first Freret St. Market of the year takes place on Saturday at noon at the corner of Freret St. and Napoleon Avenue. As always, there will be craft, clothing, and food vendors, as well as adoptable pets and live music. And it’s free to come in. For your late night entertainment, three shows are battling for your favor. There’s the visual pleasure of Fleur de Tease at One Eyed Jacks at 8 or 10 p.m. for $15. And for the ears, there’s Daria and The Hip Drops, Minutehead and Gravy Flavored Kisses at the Circle Bar or The Tix, The Voluptuals, Texas Funeral, and High in One Eye at Siberia at 9 p.m. for $6.
