Pet festival is a party by pets and for pets (and the occasional human hoping to acquire another pet). On November 3rd in Metarie's Lafreniere Park from 10 a.m - 4 p.m over 40 Shelter/Rescue organizations will be showcasing more than 400 adoptable fur babies. The festival will also feature a pet health watch area, pet marketplace, free pet costume contest (11a.m. - 12:30 p.m.), and local beer, food and music vendors. There is no greater way to spend one's Sunday than day drinking and ubering home with the newest edition to the family in your lap effortlessly raising your Uber rating. Fear not! If you wish to stay sober and drive to the festival, parking is free and handicap accessible.

Last year 20,000 patrons attended the festival and hundreds of adoptive pets found the place to call home forever. If you're looking for a certain breed of dog (for example), don't be automatically dissuaded by the word shelter rather than a breeder, there are rescue dogs of all shapes and sizes and certain rescue "vendors" listed here that specialize in the rescue and adoption processes of specific breeds (notably boxers). You can find more information on the vendors with adoptable dogs listed on the Jefferson SPCA website.

While you're there take up the once and a lifetime opportunity to peek into the inner workings of your pet's brain, by all means bring the furry babies along and have the Pet Psychic - who will be present at this year's event - translate your pet's sniffs, growls, and licks to full pertinent and woeful confessions. All proceeds from this year's festival will be donated to Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter by the fest's hosts Jefferson Parish SPCA, Jefferson Parish Animal shelter and the cities of Metairie and Kenner.
