Ireland just made ecstasy and other drugs legal by "accident"

07:30 March 21, 2015

On Tuesday, Ireland "accidentally" legalized ecstasy, crystal meth, and hundreds of other substances due to a legal loophole.

The Republic of Ireland's court of appeal struck down a part of a 1977 Misuse of Drugs Act, in which new substances had been added to the ban without parliamentary approval. The court ruled that the drugs had been unconstitutionally added, and their decision had the instant effect of legalizing the possession of a large number of drugs.

Now don't jump on a plane to Dublin just yet, according to the Irish Deparment of Health, legislation was prepared and approved in advance of Tuesday's ruling and the substances should be made illegal again as soon as possible.

Drugs like cannabis, cocaine, heroin, and other susbtances prohibited before the 1977 act were unaffected and remained illegal.

Walter White approves.
