Yesterday marked the opening of a weekend-long celebration of Greek culture on Bayou St. John. The annual Greek Festival, now in its 45th year, will be serving up traditional Greek cuisine, offering Cathedral tours, and showcasing Hellenic dances and Greek music. In addition, there will be a Greek grocery store and cooking demonstrations. New additions to the annual program include a reenactment of Bienville meeting the indigenous people of Louisiana on Sunday and a display of tribal artifacts on Saturday and Sunday

Admission to the festivities is $8 per person, excluding children under 12. However, if visitors choose to dress up in a toga on Sunday, they have a chance to win a prize and be admitted for free!

Tonight, the event kicks off at 5 p.m. with a Run/Walk beginning at 7 p.m.
