Because it has been difficult to get in the
holiday spirit due to COVID-19 and social-distancing guidelines, the New Orleans Jazz Museum is hosting
"Caroling in Jackson Square, 2020 Style." This event, which will be held
Sunday, December 20, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., will help even the Scrooges and
Grinches of this year's Christmas to feel holiday cheer.
The Patio Planters of
the Vieux Carre, a volunteer organization dedicated to
the preservation of the historic French Quarter's beauties and gems, have been
presenting this event since 1946. Tickets for the in-person caroling event are
reserved for the Patio Planters; however, guests and locals can join virtually
via Facebook's streaming service from the New Orleans Jazz Museum's
page. Attendees are also invited to download the songbook virtually
from Patio Planter's website. Click here to do that now.
This year, the Patio Planters are
collaborating with the New Orleans Jazz Museum to ensure an ethereal and gifted
performance for a difficult holiday season and to raise awareness about the
museum's fundraising. The museum is facing difficulties in this unprecedented
time, as the live music industry has greatly suffered from social-distancing
guidelines. On their website, the museum explains, "With everything that is
going on in the world today, we must follow the lead of the great musicians we
celebrate and improvise a new way forward." Because of the generosity of the Gia
Maione Prima Foundation and Randy Fertel, each dollar donated to the
museum by December 31, 2020, will be matched, meaning that your donation will
be doubled.
Jazz is central to the identity and culture of
New Orleans. Help out your community by donating to the New Orleans Jazz
Museum, which helps educate and guide local jazz musicians through their
careers. Click here to donate and to help the jazz
culture in New Orleans flourish.
"Caroling in Jackson Square, 2020 Style" will
show you the true musical spirit of New Orleans and will make you and your
family excited about the holidays. Stream this event live with some hot
chocolate while enjoying the beautiful and classic carols.
