I was lucky enough this past weekend to attend Janelle Monae’s new album listening party at a church converted into an amazing recording studio. The album, entitled The Electric Lady, will be out on September 10th, and from what I heard, I recommend checking it out!

You don’t have to be gay to participate in the fun of Decadence festival this weekend, the annual gay, lesbian, transgender festival that’s friendly to all walks of life, and there are even some events that you don’t even have to venture into the Quarter to enjoy.

Come see our current Tasting Notes band Bipolaroid perform at Siberia on Friday night with Tyler Keith and the Apostles, from Oxford, Mississippi, with Texas Funeral and King Louie’s One Man Band at 10 p.m. for $7. Bipolaroid will also be playing at Wednesday, the 4th, at Circle Bar with Dolphin Mouth and Mattox at 10 p.m. Are you in the mood some something less American? Debauche performs at Circle Bar at 10 p.m. for $10.

We’re halfway to Mardi Gras, and the Krewe of Oak feels like celebrating that fact. On Saturday at 7:30 p.m., the krewe will parades through uptown starting from the Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street under the theme “OAKtopussy: A Tribute to James Bondage.” Less raunchy, and more seductive, Katey Red will host the inaugural Decadence Drag Extraordinaire at Siberia at 10 p.m. for just $5. The drag show will feature performances by over ten people who will dress to impress you. This show will truly honor the rich history of New Orleans drag in a venue that has never hosted one before.

It’s back to school time, and there’s no way better to celebrate than by reawakening your inner goth child at Attrition’s Back to School goth dance party at Siberia on Sunday night at 10 p.m. There is no cover charge, and school attire is encouraged.
