Get Into the Grit of Genealogy with GenFest

GenFest will be returning for its third annual conference on April 11, 2026.

The genealogy conference, hosted by the City Arches & Special Collections, will be presented at the NORD Commission's Milne Recreation Center. The event starts at 10:30 a.m. and continues until 3:30 p.m.

All in the Family

This years' theme is "All in the Family," focusing on the foundations of genealogical research. Whether a seasoned researcher or an amateur looking to learn the ins and outs of the genealogy world, GenFest has something for you.

If you have ever wondered about your family's history but needed guidance breaking into the complex world of research that goes into it, this is a great way to get started.

GenFest has been growing every year. This year, expect four speakers from the staff of the City Archives & Special Collections and over 40 representatives from genealogical preservation groups who will be teaching event goers how to navigate the library's genealogy resources. The goal is to focus on preserving legacy and passing down what you have learned.

Friends of the New Orleans Public Library, a non-profit advocating the NOLA Public Library, will be sponsoring the third annual GenFest. Executive Director Shannon Cvitanovic is thrilled to be part of the event.

"It's been such a joy to watch GenFest grow into something bigger and better every year, and we are so proud to be part of it. The programs we offer are made possible through donations from out supports—from members, to donors, to anyone who has bought a book at a Friends book sale," Cvitanovic said in a press release.
