Times like these have us
thinking about how we can provide for ourselves, but for musicians, things are
especially difficult. The Musicians' Clinic is joining forces with Community
Organized Relief Effort (CORE) and The Howlin' Wolf to provide
free COVID-19 testing for local musicians, artists, and cultural workers.
The program will offer
results within three to five business days, which will be delivered by phone to
a number that the patient requests they be sent to. Prospective patients are
urged not to eat, drink, use tobacco, or chew gum 20 minutes before your
appointment. Additionally, if you do not hear back within that time frame,
patients can also call in at 311 and request their results by simply providing
their name.
The program allows
anyone to be tested, regardless of insurance, payment, or identification, which
is a great option for those who do not normally have the means to pay for
medical care. Although medical staff do ask for ID to speed up the process, not
having identification will not exclude you from testing. This is the first of a
series of opportunities for artists in the New Orleans area to be tested for
Covid.
The first testing event
will be this Friday, August 7, between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. at The Howlin' Wolf,
which is located at 907 S. Peters Street. Testing is by appointment only, so
make sure to book ahead of time.
