As social creatures, humans all have a need for some sort of companionship and animals are perfect for filling that role if you are dedicated to taking care of them and showing them respect. Here in New Orleans, we love our pets so much that we throw parades for them! To show your furry friends some love, you have to make sure that you have the best supplies to keep your cat, dog, etc. happy and healthy. In honor of National Pet Day on April 11, here are some local pet stores that you can support.

Jefferson Feed

For over five generations, Jefferson Feed has been providing some of the most organic pet foods in New Orleans. As well as selling pet toys, treats, and garden supplies, Jefferson Feed also hosts pet adoption events to connect the NOLA community with animals who need a loving home. With products that cater to cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, and fish, Jefferson Feed is guaranteed to have what you need. Multiple Locations, jeffersonfeed.com.

Southern Paws

Not only is Southern Paws a locally owned pet boutique, but it also is a bakery! So while you're shopping around for pet clothing, toys, and collars, you can also grab a variety of sweets that your pet (and possibly you) can enjoy like peanut butter suckers, pup tarts, and many different NOLA themed treats. Treat your pet to some sweet eating while in the French Quarter. 633 Toulouse St., 504-510-5324, shopsouthernpaws.com.

Big Easy Pet Shop & Rescue

With locations on Dumanie Street and Spain Street, Big Easy Pet Shop and Rescue is a non-profit/volunteer group that helps tp rescue, foster, and give medical care to abused animals in the city. The shop has a number of dogs and cats that are available for adoption and are waiting for their forever home. The shop also has many different types of pet food available for purchase. Multiple Locations, bigeasyanimalrescue.org.
