I braved the weather to see Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner at the Joy Theater. Director Tommye Myrick did a fantastic job of mixing comedy with tense racial subjects. The play continues on weekends through March 3rd. But now the rainy weather is gone for a while, there are no excuses for missing out on events this week.

The variety show called The Goodnight Show goes on at Café Istanbul at the Healing Center on St. Claude Avenues at 8 p.m. for $5 on Wednesday. The show features comedic vignettes and interviews with locals Carl LeBlanc, Ronald Lewis, and Karen Gadbois. Walk a block down to see cellist Helen Gillet, our latest Tasting Notes musician, at Allways Lounge Wednesday at 10 p.m.

There is now serenity in the midst of the CBD. Thursday is the beginning of the Elevation Yoga series at the W Hotel on Poydras Street. The free yoga class begins at 5:30 p.m. and a cocktail hour follows immediately after the hour-long session. The events are open to the public, and it is requested that you RSVP on the W’s Facebook here. The series will continue until April 25th.

The play Equus at Rivertown Theater is getting great reviews, and continues this weekend on Friday, Saturday, and a matinee on Sunday. See it before you regret missing it. Keep the dark mood going at the Bad Things Ball at Dragon’s Den at 9 p.m. with music spun by the best goth DJs in town. There is no cover. You can also see the Lost Bayou Ramblers at Tipitina’s at 10 p.m. Or you can skip all of that to see a very unique show. Puppeteer Miss Pussycat premiers her new film and puppet show called The Mystery in Old Bathbath at 10 p.m. at the Prytania Theater. Her musician husband Quintron will perform a set before her show.

Surf bands The Unnaturals, The Bills, Kill Baby Kill will help out a college radio station raise funds for their upcoming block party on Saturday at Banks St. Bar at the WTUL Benefit at 10 p.m.
