Mardi Gras is gone, but the weekend is coming up fast and there is another holiday in the middle here somewhere; Valentine’s Day is on Thursday! So put away the beads, break out the formal wear for a nice dinner date, and get ready for some great live music.
There’s a few shows happening on V Day that are great for couples new and old. The danceable and energetic Debauche performs at d.b.a. at 10 p.m. The Hi Ho Lounge hosts Singer/Songwriter night called Plus One Show: Love Edition with Adam Campagna, Kristy Duhamel and more at 9 p.m. And Circle Bar will be rocking with Denton Hatcher and Hillbilly Hotel at 10 p.m.
The local metal band performs a rare show on Friday night. Pitts Vs. Preps will play at Hangar 13 at 9 p.m. with Spickle and Sunday Morning Headcount. And it’s the second round of fundraising to get local bounce artists to this year’s SXSW. Big Freedia, Katey Red, Cheeky Black and lots more will bounce their booties and yours beginning at 10 p.m.
A dark cloud will form over the Warehouse District on Saturday. The very first Dark Shadows goth dance night at the Howlin’ Wolf Den will bring the gloom beginning at 10 p.m. for $5. If you want to keep it on the downtown side of the Quarter, Maison on Frenchmen Street can entertain you with Street Legends Brass Band, Debauche, Smoking Time Jazz Club and the Ben Slater Group beginning at 4 p.m. and lasting until the early morning hours. There is no cover charge.
Punks, rockers, and any other interested parties will be recuperating from the week’s excitement with a lot of loud bands at Checkpoint Charlie’s 4th annual Mardi Gras Recovery Party. Beginning at 8 p.m., surf-rock bands Bruiser’s House of Surf, The Unnaturals, The Split Lips, and black metal band Serpentis and more will help you relax from the long, intense carnival season.
