The 2024 Fan Expo at the New Orleans Convention Center was a welcome start to the new year. Fans from all over descended into downtown dressed as their favorite characters from comics, shows, games, and films to celebrate pop culture. The best of the costumes could be seen walking the red carpet for the Cosplay Contest. The show floor was absolutely teeming with attendees perusing the plethora of wares from jewelry to books to, of course, comic books. Additionally, many fans lined up to meet and greet their favorite celebrities.
One popular celebrity was Juliette Lewis of Cape Fear and Natural Born Killers fame. More recently, she portrayed the mother of Nick Godejohn in Hulu's The Act. The miniseries told the story of how Nick and then girlfriend Gypsy Rose Blanchard carried out the murder of Gypsy Rose's mother Dee Dee Blanchard. Juliette appeared on the main theater stage to discuss her storied career in film and music and take questions from the audience.
Another celebrity in attendance was movie star Randy Quaid who most famously plays Cousin Eddie in many of the National Lampoon Vacation films alongside Chevy Chase's Clark Griswold. Randy appeared on another theater stage to answer questions about Cousin Eddie and his other roles in films such as Independence Day. Randy and Juliette performed in Christmas Vacation as uncle and niece back in 1989!
Other big name actors who thrilled the con attendees with reunions included hobbits Elijah Wood, Billy Boyd, and Dominic Monaghan from Lord of the Rings, Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs from Charmed, Edward Furlong and Robert Patrick from Terminator 2, and Jason Lee and Ethan Suplee from My Name is Earl.
