The quick turnaround after last year’s Green Language is a testament to Rustie’s work ethic. He doesn’t let up. Green Language might’ve been disappointing and formulaic but EVENIFUDONTWANNABELIEVE is an earnest attempt at rectifying that. The vibe is mellower. There are little flourishes of lo-fi synths, ambient sounds, trippy samples. But, the album’s best feature is the drops. The songs employ the same formula: acoustic/trippy intro, slow build, thick drop. There are some twists though. “Emerald Tabletz” is a groovy pseudo-acid jazz take on his dubstep formula. “First Mythz” pounces on giddily in its ravey, high BPM state. Rustie’s unique touches make the album a standout EDM record.
