San Diego Comic-Con has been the place for fans of comic books, movies, and television to see what was next in the industry. This year’s Comic-Con showed sneak peeks of films, including previews of Aquaman, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. However, one film shown was closer to home than the fictional worlds of Hogwarts and Atlantis.

Cut Throat City takes places in a post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans. It follows the story of Blink (played by Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse actor Shameik Moore), a Tulane graduate and resident of the Lower 9th Ward. Blink has a bright future ahead and dreams of being a graphic novelist, but Hurricane Katrina sets him back. With no money and with a family to take care of, Blink and his friends take it upon themselves to get money by any means necessary.

The film is being directed by rapper/director RZA, most well-known as a member of the rap group Wu-Tang Clan. The film also boasts a large cast with actors such as Demetrius Shipp Jr. (All Eyez on Me), Wesley Snipes (Blade), Terrence Howard (Empire), T.I. (Ant-Man), and Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries). Even more important to us than its cast is the fact that Cut Throat City was filmed here in New Orleans and in parts of the Lower 9th Ward.

Cut Throat City hasn’t been given a release date as of yet.
