Jazz Fest in its ever growing popularity has ushered in a thriving post-fest and pre-fest series of concerts. Super groups and New Orleans staples are the norm for these shows. The Thursday night before Jazz Fest's first weekend brought Dr. John and the Nite Trippers to Tipitina’s Uptown for a sold out show. Unlike his fest show that is dedicated to the Ske-Dat-De-Dat...The Spirit of Satch album, his tribute to Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong, the Tipitina’s show was Dr. John showcase. The show included guest appearances by trumpet virtuoso Nicholas Payton and blues guitar prodigy Brandon Niederauer.
